These Publishing Terms apply to BookBildr publishing services and are accepted when a publishing package is purchased. If a separate Book Publishing Agreement is signed for a project, that agreement will apply together with these Terms and will take precedence in the event of a conflict.
1. BookBildr as Your Publisher
Under our BookBildr Publishing Packages, BookBildr acts as the publisher of record.
We prepare the contracted editions of your book for publication, provide the required BookBildr ISBNs, publish the book under the BookBildr imprint, and manage publication and distribution through our publishing and distribution accounts.
This is different from our Self-Publishing Packages, under which the author remains the publisher and uses their own ISBNs and publishing accounts.
2. Original Content and AI Policy
Books published under the BookBildr imprint must contain original human-written text and human-created illustrations.
We do not accept books containing AI-generated or substantially AI-generated text or artwork for publication under the BookBildr imprint.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that all text, illustrations, photographs, and other materials submitted for publication are original or properly licensed and that they have all rights and permissions necessary for publication.
BookBildr reserves the right to decline or discontinue publication if concerns arise regarding authorship, copyright, licensing, plagiarism, trademark infringement, or other rights issues.
3. Rights and Ownership
You retain the copyright to your work.
For the duration of the Publishing Agreement, you grant BookBildr the exclusive worldwide right to publish and distribute the contracted editions of your book in print and electronic formats.
You retain all rights not expressly granted to BookBildr.
Translation, audiobook, film, television, theatrical, merchandising, adaptation, and other subsidiary rights remain with you unless we agree otherwise in writing.
When the Publishing Agreement ends, the publishing rights granted to BookBildr revert to you in accordance with the Agreement.
4. Manuscript and Materials
You are responsible for supplying the manuscript, illustrations, and other materials required by your chosen publishing package within the agreed timeframe.
The manuscript should be complete before production begins unless editing or other manuscript development is specifically included in your package.
If required materials are substantially delayed, the publication schedule may also be delayed. If a project cannot reasonably proceed because the required materials have not been supplied, BookBildr may suspend or terminate the project in accordance with the Publishing Agreement.
5. Editing and Proofing
The level of editing provided depends on the publishing package purchased.
Services may range from line editing to more extensive editing for grammar, clarity, tone, pacing, plot, and readability, as described in the applicable package.
Authors will have the opportunity to review and approve edited text, book layouts, and covers before publication.
Authors are responsible for reviewing proofs carefully and reporting corrections within the agreed review period. Delays in approving proofs or supplying corrections may delay publication.
6. Illustrations and Book Design
Illustration, layout, and cover design services are provided according to the package purchased.
Where custom illustration is included, the number and type of illustrations are limited to those specified in the package. Revision terms may vary depending on the illustrator selected for the project and will be communicated to the author.
Where the author supplies illustrations, the author confirms that they own or have the necessary rights to use those illustrations commercially.
BookBildr prepares the final interior and cover files required for the editions included in the package.
7. ISBNs and Imprint
BookBildr provides the ISBNs required for editions that we publish under the BookBildr imprint.
BookBildr is listed as the publisher of those editions and manages the associated publishing records and metadata.
BookBildr ISBNs remain the property of BookBildr and cannot be transferred to the author or reused for independently published editions.
If the Publishing Agreement ends and the author republishes the book independently or through another publisher, new ISBNs will normally be required for those new editions.
8. Publication and Distribution
BookBildr manages publication and distribution through our publishing and distribution accounts.
Depending on the editions and package purchased, books may be made available through Amazon and other online retailers, booksellers, wholesalers, and library distribution channels.
Retailers and distributors make their own decisions about listings, availability, stocking, pricing presentation, delivery estimates, and other aspects of retail sale.
BookBildr cannot guarantee that every retailer will list or stock a particular title, nor can we guarantee sales, rankings, reviews, bestseller status, or other commercial results.
9. Book Description and Metadata
BookBildr prepares or manages the publishing metadata required for distribution, including information such as the book description, categories, keywords, contributor information, pricing, and publication details.
Authors may be asked to review or provide information needed to complete the metadata.
BookBildr may make reasonable changes to metadata when necessary to meet distributor requirements or improve the accuracy of a book listing.
10. Pricing
BookBildr will work with the author to establish appropriate retail pricing for the published editions.
Retail prices must take into account printing costs, retailer and distributor discounts, distribution costs, and other applicable charges.
Retailers may display prices, discounts, currencies, or promotions differently in different markets. These decisions may be outside BookBildr’s control.
11. Royalties
Authors receive 90% of the net profit from sales of their books.
Net profit is the amount BookBildr receives from the distributor or retailer after printing, distribution, retailer, and other applicable sales costs have been deducted.
Royalties are paid approximately 90 days after the month in which the sale occurred.
Payments are issued once the author’s accumulated royalty balance reaches USD 20. Balances below USD 20 are carried forward and added to future royalties until the payment threshold is reached.
If the Publishing Agreement is terminated, any remaining royalty balance will be paid to the author regardless of the USD 20 threshold.
Royalty payments are made using the payment methods supported by BookBildr at the time payment is due.
12. Sales Reports
BookBildr provides authors with sales reports based on information received through our publishing and distribution accounts.
Because retailers and distributors report sales according to their own schedules, sales may not appear immediately after a customer purchases a book.
Reports reflect the information made available to BookBildr by the applicable distributor or retailer.
13. Author Copies
Complimentary author copies are included only where specified in the publishing package purchased.
Additional author copies may be ordered separately. Printing and shipping charges for additional copies are the responsibility of the author unless otherwise agreed.
Because print-on-demand production costs and shipping rates can change, the cost of author copies may vary over time.
14. Marketing and Promotion
BookBildr may feature books published under our imprint through our website, social channels, newsletters, or other promotional channels.
Specific marketing, promotional, award submission, or review submission services are included only where stated in the publishing package purchased.
Marketing and promotional activity does not guarantee reviews, awards, media coverage, retailer placement, sales, or other commercial results.
15. Publication Schedule
Any publication or production timeline provided by BookBildr is an estimate.
The schedule depends on timely delivery of manuscripts, illustrations, author feedback, approvals, and other required materials.
Production or publication may also be affected by circumstances outside BookBildr’s control, including illustrator schedules, printing delays, distributor processing times, retailer systems, and changes to third-party publishing platforms.
16. Author Approval
The author is responsible for carefully reviewing the final manuscript, interior layout, cover, and other proofs supplied for approval.
BookBildr will not knowingly publish the final book without the required author approval.
Once the author approves the final files, BookBildr is not responsible for errors that were visible in the approved proofs.
We may recommend or require a physical proof copy where appropriate before an edition is released for wider distribution.
17. Changes After Approval or Publication
Changes requested after final approval may require additional design, editing, file preparation, ISBN, distribution, or production work.
Minor corrections may be possible without creating a new edition, depending on the nature of the change and distributor requirements.
Substantial changes may require new files, a new edition, new ISBNs, or additional fees.
BookBildr will advise the author before carrying out chargeable additional work.
18. Termination
The Publishing Agreement may be terminated according to the conditions set out in the signed Agreement.
Upon termination, BookBildr will remove the book from its publishing and distribution accounts and request that the BookBildr editions be withdrawn from distribution.
Removal from retailer and distributor systems is not always immediate. Retailer listings, third-party listings, used copies, and other records may remain visible after BookBildr has withdrawn the title and may be outside our control.
Any outstanding royalties will be paid to the author regardless of the usual USD 20 payment threshold.
Once BookBildr’s publishing rights have reverted to the author, the author may publish the work independently or through another publisher, subject to the terms of the Publishing Agreement. New editions published elsewhere will require their own appropriate publishing identifiers and ISBNs.
19. Third-Party Platforms and Services
BookBildr relies on third-party printers, distributors, retailers, and publishing platforms to produce and distribute books.
These companies may change their specifications, prices, policies, distribution networks, processing times, or services without notice.
BookBildr is not responsible for outages, policy changes, retailer decisions, production delays, or other circumstances controlled by third parties, although we will make reasonable efforts to address issues affecting books we publish.
20. Refusal or Withdrawal of Publication
BookBildr reserves the right to refuse, suspend, or withdraw publication of material that we reasonably believe is unlawful, infringing, fraudulent, defamatory, abusive, or otherwise unsuitable for publication under the BookBildr imprint.
We may also refuse or withdraw a book if information emerges showing that it violates our original-content or AI policy.
Any financial obligations following such a decision will be handled according to the Publishing Agreement and the amount of work already completed.
Upon termination, BookBildr will withdraw the applicable edition(s) from active distribution through the distribution channels managed by BookBildr. Retailers, distributors, libraries, booksellers, and other third parties may retain catalogue records, product pages, bibliographic information, cover images, or listings after an edition has been withdrawn. Used or previously purchased copies may also remain available through third-party sellers.
BookBildr does not control third-party catalogue systems and cannot guarantee the removal of such listings or information from third-party websites or databases.
21. The Publishing Agreement
These Publishing Terms form part of the terms governing BookBildr publishing services and are accepted when a BookBildr publishing package is purchased.
For some projects, BookBildr and the author may also enter into a separate Book Publishing Agreement containing additional or project-specific terms.
If a separate Book Publishing Agreement has been signed, it applies together with these Publishing Terms. In the event of a conflict between the two, the signed Book Publishing Agreement will take precedence.
If no separate Book Publishing Agreement has been signed, these Publishing Terms govern the publishing services provided under the purchased package.
