On September 28, Hola, soy Odín Pin Pin arrives—a Spanish-language collection of children’s stories written by J P de la Jara and illustrated by Cristina Dekle, about friendship, family, and the feelings we experience as we grow.
Odín is a shy, curious, affectionate little Maltese. He loves ham, playing with his friend Pirita, and, most of all, curling up in his human mom’s lap. His family makes him feel safe, but staying home alone frightens him. And now he’s about to face another big change: starting school.
A family built on love and a school full of discoveries
Before meeting his classmates, Odín has a question: why is he so different from his human family? His mom explains that families come in many forms, and love is what brings them together.
With that reassurance, he begins his adventure at La Granja school. There he joins Pirita, Lila the rabbit, and many other animals, each with their own strengths and challenges.
Learning his vowels, for example, turns out to be harder than Odín expected. But with help from Don Lucho, the school’s donkey caretaker, he discovers that learning can be fun—and that needing help is part of the process.
Friendship through good days and difficult ones
The stories in Hola, soy Odín Pin Pin explore situations that can open up meaningful conversations with young readers: feeling jealous when a friend plays with someone else, getting frustrated when something goes wrong, or being teased by a classmate.
They also show how we can support one another through difficult times. In “Las Mil Grullas” (“The Thousand Cranes”), Odín and his friends organize a paper-crane project to support Kira after her diabetes diagnosis. Together, they discover how much it matters to let her know she can count on them.
In another story, the group supports a classmate whose mom has died. Sitting beside him, respecting his silence, and sharing memories of someone they love become ways to show they care.
Through these experiences, Odín discovers that including others is a choice we put into practice through our actions.

The book includes reflection questions and drawing activities that invite children to share their feelings, revisit their favorite scenes, and connect the stories with their own experiences.
These offer opportunities for conversations at home or in the classroom about differences, friendship, and how to support someone who needs help.
By the end of the school year, Odín has new friends and greater confidence in himself. The little dog who was afraid to stay home alone has discovered that he can enjoy his own company while waiting for his family to return.
